Castlevania 2 Belmonts Revenge Game Boy
Everything you need to know about Castlevania 2 Belmonts Revenge
Castlevania 2 Belmont's Revenge, originally called in Japan Dracula Densetsu II (??????? 2 Dorakyura Densetsu Ts??, lit. «The Legend of Dracula II»), was the second title in the Castlevania series for game boy released by Konami. On July 12, 1991, Castlevania The Adventure was replaced by Castlevania 2 Belmont's Revenge, which was released in Japan, North America, and Europe in August 1991.
It was reissued in 1998 as part of the Konami GB Collection, Vol. 3 for the game boy classic, as well as for the Super Game Boy with picture frame. The collection, titled Konami GB Collection, Vol. 4, was released in 2000 for the Game Boy Color in Europe, including new color schemes for each phase of the game.
There are two video games in the Castlevania saga for Game Boy: the first, called Castlevania: The Adventure 2 Belmont's Revenge, and the second, Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest. These games have a similar name to avoid confusion with each other and with the video game Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, with a similar name. However, this is not the official name of the video game. The events of this video game take place a century before the original Castlevania game.
Brief History Castlevania 2 Belmonts Revenge
FANGS FOR MEMORIES
In the first Castlevania adventure, intrepid vampire hunter Christopher Belmonte fought hand to hand and wing to wing against the vampire king. Count Dracula Belmont defeated the Count and destroyed his castle, but unfortunately Dracula used what was left of his magical powers to transform his body into mist there and escape. However, his powers were so depleted that he was unable to transform back into his "human" form. The Count decided to love and rebuild his dark forces. Deep in his black heart, he swore revenge on Christopher Belmont and his family.
Fifteen years later, a ceremony was held in the town of Transylvania. Christopher Belmont's son, Soleiyu Belmont, had come of age and it was time for the title of vampire hunter to be passed on to him. The ceremony was to commemorate this occasion. All the citizens of Transylvania rejoiced, hoping that the father and son teams of vampire hunters would bring peace to the region forever.
But the morning after the ceremony, Soleiyu Belmont was discovered to have vanished into thin air. The ceremony was the opportunity Dracula had waited for for Soleiyu to receive great sacred power in the ceremony to mark his adult blood, and Dracula used his last bit of magic to turn Soleiyu's powers against him, transforming him into a terrible demon. Then, with the help of the demon Soleiyu, Dracula was able to assume a human form once again. That afternoon, in the face of the town's non-threat, the earth shook with a thunderous roar and four sinister castles appeared. And hidden in a lake in the center of these castles, was another castle: Count Dracula's new lair!
Horrified to learn that his son had been altered by the forces of evil, Christopher Belmont decided to save Soleiyu and end the Count's ambitions. He traveled to the new castle, each used by a different power of darkness placed there by the demon Soleiyu to stop anyone who interfered with the mystical spell Dracula had cast on him. However, to save the town of Transylvania and free his son, Christopher had no choice but to go and fight once again.

Castlevania 2 Belmonts Revenge Gameplay
It has a slight difference with its predecessor, and that is that secondary weapons (sub-weapons) have been added:
- Holy Water: When we use it we see that a burst of water appears that runs across the ground, dragging with it all the enemies in front of us.
- Axes: It is a rotating ax that is thrown into the air and hits all enemies in front of the protagonist.
- Hearts: These are obtained when we destroy the torches and they come out casually when we defeat the enemies. These hearts allow us to use secondary weapons (sub-weapons).
In this game, the player can finish the levels in any order they want as long as the levels are specified: a grass castle, a cloud castle, a rock castle, and a crystal castle.
The Belmont Clan's personal weapon, Vampire Killer, has been passed down from generation to generation since the side action game was created. The game mechanics are the same as the previous titles, except for the black and white colors of the Game Boy. The Japanese version of the game includes an alteration to one of the secondary weapons: the ax is changed to a sacred cross.
Christopher Belmont, descendant of Trevor Belmont and grandson of Sonia Belmont, defeated Dracula in the year 1576. Fifteen years have passed since the event, and life has been calm and peaceful. Christopher Belmont, who was about to pass on the Vampire Slayer whip to his son Soleiyu Belmont, planned to leave as an inheritance. The town, in anticipation of a great celebration, was preparing for all its citizens.
When Dracula diminishes over time, he can regain his power in small amounts, and can control living beings once more, before the celebration. Dracula enters Soleiyu's room before midnight and controls him by taking him to the dark side. As he does not have the strength to lead his army and revive his castle, Dracula, using Soleiyu's body, resurrects him, but first he orders Soleiyu to give him four different castles, to distribute power: a Castle of Grass, a Castle of Cloud, a Rock Castle, and a Crystal Castle, with a protector champion assigned to each.
When Christopher receives news that his son has been kidnapped and wakes up not knowing where he is, he is forced to take the sacred weapon and go in search of Dracula. After defeating the four castle guardians, Christopher realizes that Dracula only intended to absorb the powers they had generated while fighting. Dracula, after achieving what he wanted, reappears again in the castle of darkness.
Christopher, after a long walk to the highest point of the castle, finds Soleiyu waiting for him in a large room. Everything changes when Soleiyu refuses to hug him and challenges him to a sudden death battle. After an intense fight between father and son, when Christopher is about to kill Soleiyu, Dracula's essence, now fully recovered, leaves his body and regains his genuine form. After ensuring Soleiyu's safety, Christopher enters the last room of the castle prepared for his second battle against the Count. It was not going to be easy, since his forces had been increased by the guardians and the forces that he had been gathering and expanding little by little during his long absence.
As legend had it, the Belmont Clan members were the only ones who had the Vampire Slayer's whip, which can kill vampires, and as a result, Christopher faces Dracula and wins again.
Graphics
Graphically, it's an improvement as well. While the first game looked good for an early game on the platform, a few years of getting used to the hardware paid off in dividends for this sequel. The enemies are much more detailed, as are the levels themselves. The sprites have been redesigned to take into account the size of the Game Boy's screen, meaning much more of the environment can be shown on screen at once, feeling natural and accessible. While some features may not be as detailed per se, the review that was done was certainly for the best.
Music and Sound
Final reflection
Atmosphere, inspiration, great music, intriguing worlds: everything I love about video games is here and more.Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge is, overall, a stellar sequel, full of atmosphere and challenge. It's a beautifully designed game that's very easy to get into and rewards you for investing time with gameplay with a really tangible breath of adventure. It's nice to see a company make up for a disappointing title with a spectacular sequel.
