Everything you need to know about Ninja Boy

GameBoy Ninja Boy - Titulo del inicio del juego

ninja-boy, known in Japan as Super Chinese Land (?????????????), is a 1990 action video game that was developed and published by Culture Brain for game boy . It is the first game in the handheld series of Culture Brain's Super Chinese series. The hero of the game is Jack, a ninja who wants to save a princess.

This game is a fighting action game with level advancements. In each stage, after defeating a certain number of enemies, the door located on the upper stage will open. Once the character enters the door, the stage is cleared. If you hit the rocks and blocks, various items will appear. Obtain as many items as possible throughout the game, as certain enemies can be defeated with certain items. Beware of invisible traps.

Brief History Ninja Boy

A great event occurred in Ninja World, where people lived happily.

Yoma and Dragon Shogun forces took control of the two castles in Kung-Fu World.

All weapons passed into the hands of the Yoma Clan. Furthermore, Princess Ling-Ling of Ninja World was kidnapped by them. Now Jack, an enthusiastic ninja boy, must fight his way into the enemy camp to rescue his beloved girlfriend, Princess Ling-Ling.

Ninja Boy Gameplay

Ninja Boy uses the Kung Fu Heroes gameplay formula. The player must fight various enemies to unlock a door, allowing them to advance to the next stage. As such, players control a young Kung-Fu hero from a bird's perspective and can move and attack up, down, left and right.

Players use the hero's punching and kicking skills to defeat enemies. Players can also find weapons and other items scattered around the game to use against enemy hordes. After defeating a set number of enemies, players can run to an exit and proceed to the next level. As the levels progress, difficult enemies become more numerous.

Each area consists of four stages, with a total of thirty-two stages. Each stage is made up of a screen. There are quick passages located on opposite sides of the screen. Occasionally some items are hidden in a field. If you are attacked by enemies, fall into a pond or hole, or are shot by a projectile, you will lose a life. When Jack has no more lives, the game will end.

Graphics

Graphics-wise, Ninja Boy is just average. The perspective is similar to the first Zelda game in that the action is viewed from a top-down perspective, while characters and other objects are drawn as if viewed from the side. While the phenomenon is not uncommon in games from the mid-1980s to early 1990s, most similar games do not have a jump button. During a jump, the ninja kid looks like he's falling rather than performing an acrobatic maneuver thanks to the fact that you can't really tell that he's actually supposed to be jumping.

Aside from this, the level of detail is decent for an early Game Boy game, while the two-frame animation given to each sprite in the game is what should be expected, but somewhat disappointing. There is a decent variety of enemies in the game but it is, perhaps appropriately, difficult to tell what some of them are supposed to look like.

Music and Sound

The music is below average with some repetitive tunes that don't take advantage of the Game Boy's limited capabilities. One of the main annoyances is the migraine-inducing bell that will ring like an alarm clock from hell as soon as the exit opens. The deafening noise is enough to make you turn off the sound forever instead of having to listen to it on every level.

Final reflection

Overall, Ninja Boy is a quirky little game that comes from a day before genres and conventions were established, and as such, it has some interesting surprises for players who think they've seen it all. Still, even after figuring out the game's strange mechanics, it's ultimately a pretty unrewarding experience.
