Everything you need to know about Primal Rage

Ports for home consoles and personal computers were released. Efforts to perfectly emulate the arcade original were unsuccessful due to the use of an unusual copy protection method. Toys, comics, a novel, and other related products were produced. The game sold more than 1.5 million copies.

History

Seven fearsome creatures with supernatural abilities emerge from their slumber deep within the crust of Urth and are worshiped as gods by humans, who form segregated clans beneath those that follow. The beasts themselves are divided between those who wish to maintain peace in Urth and those who seek to plunge the world into more chaos for their own benefit.

These creatures are Blizzard, the god of ape-like goodness; Armadón, the ceratopian/thyrophore -as god of life; Talon, the predatory god of survival; Sauran, the tyrannosaurus -as god of hunger; Chaos, the ape-like god of decay; Vertigo, the cobra-shaped goddess of madness and Diablo, the tyrannosaurus-shaped god of evil.

Primal Rage Gameplay

Primal Rage is a traditional 2D fighting game in which two players select characters to fight each other in one-on-one combat, or a single player takes on a fighting campaign against artificial intelligence (AI) of increasing difficulty. The final battle of the single-player game (accessible only on difficulty level 10 or higher) involves fighting all other AI monsters with an increased power bar, available in a mini-game. before the fight.

A total of seven characters can be played. Each character has their own specialized set of three attack moves and abilities. The goal is to deplete the opposing character's health meter before the player's is depleted. There are also seven different background stages where combat takes place, each representing one of the character's innate domains: the Cliff (Blizzard), the Gaps (Amadon), the Fringe (Talon), the Cove (Sauron) , the Ruins (Chaos), the Tomb (Vertigo) and Hell (Devil).

during fights

During fights, members of human tribes wander nearby and worship their gods. This allows creatures to throw them or devour some to regain health (eating opponents' worshipers adds a bonus to one's score, while eating one's own will penalize the player).

Before the final battle, a minigame begins where the player has the opportunity to eat as many worshipers as possible to increase health during the resistance round. Two human-controlled characters can trigger Easter egg mini-games of volleyball and human bowling.

Unlike most fighting games, where special moves are performed by moving the joystick and then pressing one or more buttons, Primal Rage features a system where the player holds down certain buttons and then performs the joystick movements. Later revisions of the arcade game added the ability to perform special moves in the more traditional way, with movement followed by button pressing, but also kept the original method.

The Final Moves

Graphics

One nice advantage the game's gear system had over the game's boy was color. Of course, the new gameboys eventually went that route and it's not a new thing anymore. But back then, it was really nice, especially when you could also control the brightness of the screen.

Well, this game had some nice colors. It may have been a port of an arcade game, but the backgrounds still looked decent. They were full of lush jungles and raging lava-filled volcanoes with some icy caverns if I remember correctly. There were also some deserts that were very arid.

They looked great and added to the apocalyptic feel of the game. The creatures themselves looked unique and different. They didn't just look like dinosaurs and big monkeys, they had some variety and different colors. Even when you fought a duplicate of yourself, they changed the color brightness on the duplicate, so the two don't get confused. That was perfect. It really was a deadly environment to be in, but that's what made the game more exciting.

Music and Sound

Well, it's been a while and I don't remember much about the music and sound effects. I think the music had a primitive rhythm that was pleasing and appropriate to the style of the world. The sound effects, I think, were missing. I don't remember much, but I don't think there were too many roars or reactions to pain that one would expect to find in most fighting games. I think the only time you heard them make sounds was before and after fights and the sounds in between were the impacts of the attacks. This could also be due to the limited restrictions of the portable system. Although I'm not 100% sure.

Final reflection

Oh yeah, while there may not be too many cool things to unlock, it's always fun to come back to this type of game with each character and try out different combo moves. I think there are eight monsters to choose from, so it gives you about eight different moments to come back and conquer the world like all of them. Plus, if you can find someone else with a gaming rig, cartridge, and link cable, you can always duke it out together for fun. Playing with a friend is always a fun experience.
