Everything you need to know about Comical Machine Gun Joe
sega i believe Comical Machine Gun Joe (???? ????? ???) for the Sega Master System. It was initially released in Japan on the Sega Card, but has been included in several compilations since then. In Comical Machine Gun Joe, the player must shoot all enemies on the screen without being hit to succeed. There are five levels: Harbor, Center, Hall, Graveyard, Midnight and Fairyland.
Joe can also jump very high, so he must shoot as well. From time to time a spider will appear, and both your shots and those of your enemies will bounce off it. By shooting pigs you can obtain items such as a smart bomb. Enemy shots will dematerialize and move to the bottom of the screen if they collide with Joe. These will slow Joe down, as well as serve as bulletproof shields.
Comical Machine Gun Joe would probably achieve the light-hearted effect you're going for if the game weren't so excessively difficult. The stream of bullets is almost impossible to dodge. As the stages progress you collect so many enemies on the screen that the game becomes more of a fight to avoid bullets than unleashing hell yourself.
The game only has five stages (repeating stages), and Sega wanted to make sure that the player would not return the game if they beat it in less than 5 minutes. Joe is just a man in a trench coat and a machine gun. Do you know how hard it is to stay positive, even comical, when facing legions of gun-toting maniacs, bomb-throwing pigs, and invulnerable spiders?
Ninja gaiden gameplay
Comical Machine Gun Joe is supposed to be a happy version of a shooter on static or non-scrolling screens. And in a way it is, since the art chosen to represent the settings, the bad guys and the character has a cartoonish style.
The problem with this game is that it is terribly unfair to the player from the first game due to its high difficulty in which we have little chance of maneuvering. The game consists of aiming and shooting at all the enemies that appear on the screen, if we are fast they will not have time to shoot us, but if they do, their shots will be fast and always where we are.
The only ability we have to dodge attacks is to move laterally and jump, the problem is that the jump is very high and it takes a long time to return to the ground, at that time you will have more enemies on the screen shooting at you and you will not have space to escape.
Graphics
The graphics are what was expected of its time, totally flat and linear, but fun to draw. The scenarios are also very fun and entertaining, but nothing more than that, they are still as linear as they can be.
Music and Sound
The music is monotonous and the same all the time, it doesn't change or vary in the different scenarios, it's the same all the time, but with different sounds.
Final reflection
The chosen settings are beautiful and some stand out, such as a cemetery or a fantasy forest. Here I can say that for 1986 there is good work and variety. Overall, for this year, it can't be said to do anything wrong in any way, except the difficulty curve design spoils what could be one of the best shooters on the system. It's a shame.
