Everything you need to know about Death Race
deathrace is a vehicular combat video game developed by American Game Cartridges for Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and published in 1990. It is a remake of a 1976 video game.
Death Race NES Nintendo is one of three games that American Game Cartridges published for the NES. The others are Shockwave and a conversion of the 1986 light weapons arcade game Chiller. They released all of their titles in 1990. In Australia, the game was distributed by Home Entertainment Suppliers and was only available to members of their "HES Game Club."
Nintendo Player described Death Race as the "spiritual predecessor" of the Grand Theft Auto game series developed by DMA Design, applying the main gameplay elements of Death Race. BMG Interactive published the first Grand Theft Auto game in 1997.
Brief History Death Race
In deathrace, you drive a heavily armed futuristic vehicle in a cross-country destruction race.
Centered at the top of the screen is a timer. Before it reaches zero, you must collect all the flags in each city to open the exit. Escape with your vehicle intact and you will have defeated the city and can continue the race.
You get points and earn money by eliminating those pesky gremlins. Shoot them, launch missiles at them or just run them over. But be careful: they can also bombard you with missiles from helicopters and silos.
Between each city, you can use the reward awarded for all this chaos to repair any damage, upgrade your car, or increase your firepower.
If you are ready to start, select a level for the game. As the levels increase, you start with less money and your opponents are much better equipped, as well as more aggressive.
One or two people can simultaneously participate in Death Race, either as a team or playing against each other.

Death Race Gameplay
Death Race takes place in eight American cities, which the player visits in succession: San Diego, California; Phoenix, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; Houston Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; chicago, illinois; Raleigh, North Carolina; and New York, New York.
In each city, the player drives an armored sports car equipped with surface-to-air missiles and rapid-fire cannons. Player performance is measured by the number of kills. The player can use the money earned in the game to upgrade the car's engine, tires, chassis, weapons, and missiles. Completing the level requires capturing one to four flags and then going through the exit. The game has four difficulty levels: novice, amateur, professional and world class. To complete the game, the player must go through all cities twice on the "World Class" difficulty level.
Compared to the 1976 arcade game, the city has improved graphics and the tombstones that can block the player's path have been replaced by enemies in helicopters.
Graphics
The graphics are pretty good. A top down view with bright colors and easily distinguishable humans running towards the slaughterhouse. Shoot or run over them and they'll explode into 8-bit blood (okay, it's not that gory, but for 8-bit it's pretty satisfying). It would have been nice if his car looked a little different when he updated the chassis, but oh well.
Music and Sound
The sound will make you laugh. The opening screen has machine guns in the car firing and decent music, along with the game itself, but during the car screen where you can buy things and on the map where you see your progress, the music sounds like Wally Bear and No Gang. It's funny, but for some reason it made me like the game even more. Other sounds like people getting run over, things exploding, the helicopter hitting you, etc., are perfectly fine. They shawtin? rock the shawthouse!
Final reflection
Anyone who has played many unlicensed games knows that they are a real crapshoot. Most of the time there is a good reason why they didn't get the Quality Seal. However, this one definitely shines like a diamond in the rough. Once you get used to the controls, you'll be running through arena after arena, dodging missiles, and taking out anyone foolish enough to stand out in the open. If you see this game, definitely do it! You will not regret.
