Everything you need to know about Power Blade
Power Blade takes place in the distant future. The world is a peaceful utopia where humanity lives happily in large cities maintained by a computer nexus. Then one day, aliens invade and infect the computer with a virus. The computer begins to go haywire and chaos breaks out in the cities. The central government sends NOVA, a top-secret agent who is the only one who can fix the computer and defeat the aliens.
Nova is not your average warrior. He sports a pair of jeans and a cool-looking pair of sunglasses and uses a large boomerang as his main weapon. Power Blade nes is a classic platform action game. From the beginning, Nova can choose one of six sectors. Each sector has a microstrip that allows access to the central computing station. This means you have to complete all six sectors before facing the last one. In each level, Nova will fight her way through the levels, fighting off hordes of enemies and advancing through dangerous areas before encountering a final level boss.
Along the way, Nova can collect power icons to upgrade her boomerang. You can also find cans of soup that replenish your energy to the maximum when your health drops. In each stage, there is also a secret power upgrade to collect. This upgrade gives Nova the legendary Power Blade armor. With this armor, Nova can take three hits without taking damage, and can also fire powerful arcs of fire instead of using her standard boomerang.
Power Blade nes gameplay
Power Blade begins with a title screen without music that rips off the classic Terminator cover (the one with Arnold in shadows holding a gun). If you let the title sit there for a while, you can see the backstory they gave to this game. Apparently, it's 2191 and the master computer that controls everything has gone crazy! It's up to Nova, a boomerang-wielding 22nd century security chief, to infiltrate six security sectors, find his contact at each location, and collect data tapes that will allow him to breach the rogue computer's inner sanctum. Hey, I know it's simple and unoriginal, but since when are NES games known for having great stories, especially action games like Power Blade?
As Nova, you can choose in which order you want to tackle the six security sectors. Each stage plays similar to a Megaman level with lots of platforms, respawning enemies, and a final boss. However, Power Blade's stages have branching paths and therefore require a bit of exploration to master. Basically, you want Nova to find her contact for the level, then move on to the boss room to complete her mission. Rinse and repeat five more times and you can tackle the last level, which is similar to the rest, except you don't need to find a contact.
The controls of Power Blade They're just as good as Megaman 3 minus the sliding move (which was added in the sequel to this game, by the way). Nova can shoot boomerangs in all 8 directions and her shots can be upgraded as you progress through the game. Like Castlevania, you'll find power-ups that increase the range and power of your weapon, as well as others that allow you to fire more boomerangs at once. There are also a couple of useful items to find, such as grenades that allow you to kill everything on the screen and food to replenish your health. Last but not least is the Power Suit, a nifty-looking piece of metal armor that allows you to fire energy waves that can pass through walls and such. The downside is that it can only be hit three times before losing the stick, but it continues to the next stage.
Graphics
Music and Sound
