Everything you need to know about RoadBlasters

Nintendo RoadBlasters - Titulo del juego

RoadBlasters is an action racing game. The game takes place in the future, where survival is your biggest concern. There are 50 levels in total, and your goal is to reach the end point of each of them. In each level, there are obstacles in your way that will make it more difficult to reach the end. Each level becomes a little more difficult than the last. The 50 levels are divided into smaller groups, so once you reach a certain level, you can start from the first level of that group.

RoadBlasters Gameplay

On the road, and in your path, there are enemy cars, jeeps and bikes that can be killed. Equipped on the front of your car is a weapon, with unlimited ammunition, that can be used to dispatch these cars. Some cars can be easily taken out with regular firepower, but others will require special weapons to do so. In each level, there is a helicopter that launches a special weapon that can be very beneficial to you. These special weapons can be used three times or until your car is destroyed. Special weapons include cannons, cruise missiles, electric shields for protection, and a nitro booster to make you drive faster. The cannon is a set of limited and more powerful ammunition, and can only be used until it runs out.

Other obstacles along the way include toxic spills, mines, and gun turrets. Toxic spills make you lose control for a second, so you'll spin around a bit. The mines are deadly, blowing you up, and the turrets, located on the side of the road, target you and try to shoot you down as you pass them.

Your car can be destroyed in different ways. Hitting an enemy, a mine, or being knocked down by a turret will cause your car to explode. If this happens, it will stop where it is and start again from where it crashed. You can crash as many times as you want in a level, but it will use up your fuel. Fuel Orbs can be found in various locations throughout the course, and some enemies, when killed, will drop a Fuel Orb. About halfway through each level, there is an extra fuel boost that you get automatically. It is important to keep the fuel level high, because losing all fuel will result in game over. Using too much fuel in one level will also make the next level a little more difficult, since you won't have as much fuel to begin with. You are awarded two credits in total.

The levels are set up very similarly to each other, with the only real difference being some additional enemy vehicles. Due to this lack of many level changes, the game can feel repetitive and you may lose interest in it quite quickly.

The control is very easy to pick up. You can drive with the forward button or take a normal shot with the a button. The b button is for using your special weapon power-ups. Maneuvering your vehicle is pretty easy to do, so you shouldn't have too much difficulty with the controls.

Most levels have a pretty similar layout, run to the end while shooting any enemies that get in your way. As long as you manage to collect some of the available fuel along the way and don't destroy yourself too much, the game will seem pretty easy. It's easier said than done, but after playing a bit, you'll realize that most levels aren't that difficult.

Graphics

The graphics of this game are not bad. His car is pretty well designed and looks even better with a special weapon strapped to the roof. The enemy designs are quite good and contain enough details. In each level, the side of the road is a different color, depending on which section you're crossing, and you can see silhouettes of buildings in the distance. Sometimes when turning corners, the road may distort slightly.

Music and Sound

There is very little sound in this game. The only music that is present comes at the end of each level you beat. These pieces are slightly different from each other, but they only tend to last a couple of seconds. It would have been a little better if they had included some music in the actual levels. The sound that is heard during each level is the sound effects. The sound effects are pretty good. While driving, your car's acceleration sounds great. When driving off-road, the sound effect used makes it sound like your car is having trouble on that surface. The gunshots sound good, and when you get weapon upgrades, the helicopter above you sounds like a helicopter.

Final reflection

Overall, this is a decent game, but it's not that fun. The graphics and sound are fine, but the gameplay is quite repetitive and boring after a few levels of play. Since it is so old, it can be found quite cheap. If you can get it for a few dollars I would recommend it, but if you want something more I would recommend saving your money for a better game.
