The game's puzzles are solved by finding objects, using them and connecting them with other objects or characters. The game has Spanish dubbing for the characters' voices and a soundtrack composed by Barrington Pheloung for the entire story. The English voices were provided by actors such as Rolf Saxon in the role of George Stobbart.

It will make you witness the transformation of the young Californian George Stobbart who is on vacation into the main protagonist of the story of the ?broken sword?; Never in his most feverish imagination could he have predicted the dark events that would follow. And only with your help will he be able to decipher the mysteries of Broken Sword (Broken Sword).

Plot of the game Broken Sword Legend of the Templars

You are having coffee in a cafe in Paris when a man enters with a briefcase. Then a clown enters, takes the briefcase and leaves a saxophone next to it before running away. When the saxophone explodes, you wake up next to the glass and rubble of the cafeteria after witnessing a murder. You propose to solve it.

During his journey, George Stobbard, an open-minded Californian, will discover that there will be more characters involved and related to the Templar world. Furthermore, George will not be alone as he will have the help of Nicolle Collard, a journalist who was investigating some murders and who had met the victim moments before being murdered. Other characters will help George such as an archaeologist, a duchess or an Irish teenager, among others.

After looking around the area, we entered the cafeteria and chatted with the waitress. As we finished our investigation and headed to another part of the facility, we ran into a police inspector and his assistant. We begin our own investigation once we have told them what we know. We will embark on an adventure in search of our killer in seven different locations in Paris, Ireland, Syria, Spain and Scotland in search of objects and information that will lead us to our objective. We will meet different characters and look for evidence and objects during the course of our adventure.

Discovering the clown's secrets is not as easy as looking for clues. In addition to the new objectives that appear as the adventure progresses, new objectives put us in danger, such as leaving a hotel without being caught by two thugs, escaping from an armed man and being discovered while participating in a Neo-temple meeting. .

Gameplay of Broken Sword Legend of the Templars

Throughout Broken Sword The Legend of the Templars, we will control our protagonist at all times through the mouse, in a "point and click" or "point and click" game system in which we will never encounter problems. The game is accessible to both novice and expert players, since its difficulty is not very high, although we will have to act quickly or we will die.

We will also find puzzles and situations in which we will have to think a lot, like in Ireland when a goat blocks our path, combining objects to create a key. The adventure will take us between eight and nine hours to finish, but this time can be extended if we get stuck in a puzzle or trouble.

We will experience a colorful and precise recreation of scenes, in which happy passages such as "Mantua" or the "Villa de Vasconcellos" are mixed with other somber ones such as a crypt or a ruined church, all of them accurately represented. The characters are very well reproduced and the animations are very fluid. In addition, there are video scenes that adjust to the situations and make us know the adventure more deeply.

The game's music and sound effects are well suited to the different situations and characters in the game. The music transitions are appropriate and so are the sounds. The Spanish voices are appreciated, but sometimes they overact, giving rise to some comical situations. For example, when George goes to Syria in the adventure game and says, "Do you want Moorish skewer?" and when he says, “You have some pretty sarcastic things to say.”

Graphics

Broken Sword on Playstation does not boast of having the best graphics for its time. Indeed, the game's graphics are not brilliant, but they do their job. Character detail is limited and you can tell when they blink and move their mouths, and you can see if they have mustaches and so on, but not very easily. Close-up scenes, such as phone conversations, generally allow for the best face-up detail of characters, but only a few of the game's main characters will be able to use the phone. Luckily to counter this, Broken Sword focuses on body language, rather than facial expressions, and is easy to learn.

However, much attention to detail was devoted to the background scenery. The sewers of Paris, for example, are dark and murky, but amazingly detailed. The stained glass windows of a church are striking and the ruins of a castle in Ireland are wonderful to see. Overall, the graphics are good for the game. For the modern gamer (2014), these graphics are probably very outdated now.

Music and Sound

Broken Sword features voice acting and is one of the few games on Playstation to feature voice acting WITH subtitles. This is great for accessibility. There are a variety of accents, George the hero's American accent! Nicole the reporter's French accent! And a kind of growly accent of a French man who digs roads... Anyway, there are many accents ranging from British, French, American and even Syrian and Oriental accents, so the subtitles will help you if you don't really understand what they mean. they are saying because of the sounds of these accents. Of course, the other reason for subtitles is the heavy use of music, particularly during dramatic scenes which can drown out voiceovers.

The voice acting in Broken Sword could be classified as brilliant in some areas but disappointing in others. Some people seem pretty soft when it comes to saying something that should be full of emotion. However, this is not a big problem since most of the game has excellent voice acting.

Music… As noted above, the subtitle option is necessary to see what is being said during conversations, mainly because of the music. The music perfectly follows the mood, in a threatening conversation the music becomes tense and dark, sometimes a touch too loud, often drowning out the conversation in the process.

The music helps set the mood of the game and is perfectly in tune with each situation that arises from the plot. Although most of the time the music is menacing, tense, or even surprising, the game's intro and ending themes are generally the most interesting themes. As such, Broken Sword only uses music for mood and with all the conversations going on, it can often be quiet in places. Only when events occur and scenes progress does the music emerge to sound its best.

The sound effects in Broken Sword are one of the best points of the game. While music sets the mood to present the scene and when events occur, sound sets the actual scene. Jets of water dripping from wind and so on. When passing through the sewers of France, for example, sounds of water or some other unmentionable bodily substance stand out. Rattle sounds, footsteps, creaking windows, phones ringing, it's all there and goes a long way to giving the game a realistic feel.

Final reflection

Broken Sword is certainly not a typical adventure. A great story full of mystery, murder, romance and humor that mix to present a wonderfully elaborate plot. It's a solid point-and-click game, with well-crafted mechanics, devilishly difficult puzzles, and sharp wit.

Overall it's well worth the purchase, it was the UK adventure game of the year when it was released and remains a timeless classic that is still available on PC.
