Everything you need to know about Kingdom Hearts
I finally decided on Kingdom Hearts, and all I have to say is wow. I thought this game would be horrible, but it's actually really good, in fact better than any game I've ever played! There is everything in this game; action, adventure, music, power! I completely fell in love with this game and I think everyone else will too.
The argument
This game has an extremely original plot, never used before. This game has characters from many Final Fantasy games and Disney characters. The real story is easy to understand and yet complicated. This is because many things happen at once.
There are basically two plot lines. One is that you live on a small but peaceful island called Destiny Island. You are a teenager named Sora. With two of his friends, Riki and Kairi, they all dream of visiting other worlds far from the island. The three of you decide to make a raft and travel away from the island to find these other worlds.
One day, the island was taken over by black shadows called Heartless, and your island was destroyed. Before it was destroyed, you obtained a key-shaped sword called the Key Blade. After the island was destroyed, you, Kairi, and Riku scattered. You wake up in Traverse Town, where your adventure begins…
You, Donald and Goofy must work together to find Kari and Riku, and save the universe from Heartless. They all have to travel from one world to another, blocking each of the Heartless.
Kingdom Hearts Gameplay
This game is probably the longest lasting game ever made. There are many things to do, and when I say many, I mean A LOT. It takes time to beat each world, and there are many worlds to go through.
One thing you have to do is travel from world to world. You don't go to every world just to fight, you go to save it. You have to fight through the swarm of Heartless that seems to oppose you and defeat the boss. Only then can you save that world. Some worlds will look very familiar to you. Some worlds are Atlantica, which was from The Little Mermaid, Colosseum, against which Hercules, the strongest man, fights, and the Jungle from Tarzan. There are many others that will sound very familiar to you when you play. There are lots and lots of worlds, and each one gets harder and harder to beat.
Flying on the Gummi Ship
Another thing you do is fly in something called the Gummi Ship. You fly in that to go from world to world. As you progress further and further, you get more upgrade parts and eventually you will be able to move around. Even when you're on the gummi ship, Heartless will still attack on his own ships. Some will just fly away, but others will attack you. You have lasers on your ship, so you can destroy them and take whatever they drop. Even when you fly, you are fighting.
You are not just a warrior. You are also a powerful magician. The spells you can use are all different. They range from attacks like fire and defense like Aero. There are also spells to stop everything, attack everything, and heal your HP. There are also summoning spells. When you obtain certain items and take them to a certain location, you can turn them into summons. When these summons are used, a Disney character appears, such as Genie, Bambie, Dumbo, etc. They all have different and unique abilities.
Speaking of skills, you are also a fast learner and can learn powerful skills. As you beat certain bosses and worlds, you get them. They can help you dodge enemy attacks, move faster, etc. All this is very important if you want to win the game.
Other things about the levels
Another thing you can do in this game is swim. In some levels you have to swim to move. Can you believe it? You can move, attack, use magic spells and even swim! This game has it all!
There are also these amazing things called trinities. They're like special abilities, and you use Donald and Goofy on you to get some items or munny. These are scattered throughout the planets, and you have to find them to obtain 100%. Great, huh?
This game is not just about traveling through worlds. You also have to find things. You have to find Dalmatians. You know, the white dogs with black spots. You also have to find the missing pages. These pages are used to unlock new areas in the book with Hundred Acre Woods. There, you can meet Pooh Bear, Piglet and the others. When you find a certain number of Dalmatians or do certain things in the Hundred Acre Woods, you get some awesome items.
However, one flaw is at the beginning of the game. You learn most of the controls, but this area takes a lot of time. This game takes time, and it took about fifteen minutes to complete the first part. That's a lot of time.
Some other defect
Another flaw is not being able to skip cut scenes. This can be good and bad. It can be good because you can pause it during any cutscene, but bad because if you watched it before, you might want to skip it, but you can't. Oh well, the cut scenes aren't that important, and you know what they say. Good things come to those who wait.
I think the gameplay in this game is better than almost every other game out there.
Graphics
Visually, Kingdom Hearts is a beautiful game with many themed settings and locations. However, you may find that the lack of extensive detail gives the game an almost cartoony feel and makes it seem a little childish for older players' tastes. Magic spells lack the flash of Final Fantasy, and while I try not to compare this game to that, the lack of flash in battle really takes a toll on you if you live for a massive battle.
The additional characters and bosses you face are all true to Disney and you'll find that some of the best action takes place in Halloween Town, so be prepared for some cool little scenes here and there to accompany your adventure.
Music and Sound
The music in Kingdom Hearts has all the tenderness of a 101 Dalmatians movie and then some. While the game's music fits and has the feel of each and every setting, you may be longing for something a little more serious when you take on Oogie Boogie and Hades. However, what it has to work with is useful at best and shouldn't be criticized too much.
The sound effects have a nice touch with little grunts and moans, as well as the occasional comment from one of your characters to keep the battles flowing. However, the voiceovers are of impressive quality and seeing some of Square's most infamous characters have a voice for them this time around really drives home the fact that Square created this game.
Final reflection
Kingdom Hearts is a game about love and friendship, along with those lovable Disney characters (at least, for most of them). If you have never played an action RPG before, this is a recommended game because it is not too difficult or complicated to play, compared to Morrowind… Overall, this game is fun in its own way, and the collaboration between Squaresoft and Disney The result of this game is something worthy of praise
