Brief History Against Hard Corps
A new race emerges?
Five years had passed since the Alien Wars and humanity was slowly beginning to recover. However, civilization was still in crisis. The extreme concentration of people and goods in the few areas that escaped devastation during the fighting had turned the cities into hotbeds of crime.
Worse still, the rapid development of genetic engineering and cyborg technologies during the war generated a new and fearsome type of crime unimaginable before the conflict.
To combat this threat, the government created a special team of elite troops, the “Unified Military Special Mobile Task Force.” Taking the name of the heroes who had saved the planet during the Alien Wars, the public called them "Hard Corps."
It's the holiday season. The chaotic city festively decorated, its citizens were looking for a respite from the usual hustle and bustle. But unknown to the population, the forces of evil were using this peaceful moment to advance their dark plans.
Someone infiltrates the city's defense computer complex and unmanned weapons begin to run amok through the streets, attacking people at random. Receiving orders to destroy these rampaging machines, the Hard Corps departs. But this turned out to be just the opening chapter in their fight against a massive conspiracy of evil.

Contra Hard Corps Gameplay
True to the series, Contra Hard Corps doesn't stray too far from its roots. It's so incredibly simple that you'll never have to read the instruction manual. This game is pure run and gun tactics until the end. In very few cases you will remove your thumb from the shutter button. However, along with our simplicity, Konami added subtle complexity to keep us calm in front of our televisions. Four characters are now at your disposal and each has their own (read: still subtle) attributes.
Contra vets may remember this from the little-known Contra Force. Each character has their own unique set of weapons, which doesn't make a drastic change to the gameplay, but manages to keep things fresh. The height of the characters also played a role in the game, providing another very subtle complexity.
Graphics
When you play this game, nothing will make you want to stop playing. The graphics have a very nice color and the game's parallax scrolls, so you will not be dissatisfied with the graphics. Sometimes the game has 3D graphics which makes it more exciting and real. There is a small black section at the top of the screen that lists your lives and the weapons you have and it can be a little annoying at times seeing how the original Contra was full screen. The characters are clear and everything comes out clearly. The bosses are done perfectly, there are absolutely no problems with any of the bosses. They move completely making them look like they are really moving; When the bad guys are moving, that's where the action comes in. I must say that the graphics are perfect and that is why I give them a ten out of ten.
Music and Sound
Wow hombre.
The sounds are good for the level they were at in Genesis, where the voices generally sound like the characters have bronchitis. There isn't much voice acting done by giant manic robots, so you can be thankful for that. What you get is a lot of different gunshot and explosion sounds. They sound good to say the least.
Although its machine gun looks nothing like a real-life machine gun, and the lasers can fire with a static-charged hiss, they all work well in the context of the game, and several fake-sounding explosions placed against a background of other explosions and gunshots sounds pretty good.
Final reflection
Con: Hard Corps was exactly that. It was hard core to the max. It came, and it was great, and to this day it is the best action game on the 16-bit platform, trumping both the other Contra imitators and its own series of games. Unfortunately, it performed so strongly that the PS games Contra: Legacy of War and C: the Contra Adventure were horrible in comparison, and also as standalone games.
If you want to have fun, this is at the top of my 16-bit list. Certain games have no replay, but my Genesis is exposed to daylight instead of being locked in the closet as a direct result of this game. It has branching paths, multiple weapons, 4 characters, and a gruesome array of robotic monstrosities that unleash waves of attacks that you'll be surprised you were able to dodge. Wow, friend.
