Scooby Doo Mystery Gameplay
The player controls Shaggy Rogers, followed by Scooby-Doo. Each of the game's four levels begins with a scene of the Mystery Machine driving along with the characters preparing for the next mystery. The goal of the game is to find clues to solve each of the game's four mysteries.
Players will find the clues by finding them outside, completing a specific task, or by having Scooby "sniff" the clues hidden in each area. These clues give players mystery points and more can be earned in bonus levels. Players who accumulate 10,000 points will earn an extra life if they survive 10 seconds.
Additionally, the player must avoid dangers such as small creatures, high falls, or the main monster of each level. If the “fear meter” fills up, the player will lose a life. As more clues are found, more areas can be explored at the beginning of each level.
During the game, Shaggy and Scooby can communicate with Mystery Inc. To lower the fear meter, Velma provides Scooby with snacks. Velma evaluates the clues and clue points are awarded to players as Velma analyzes them.
When enough clues have been gathered, Velma sends Shaggy to Fred to help her build a trap to catch the creature. The player must lure the creature into the trap so that Fred and his group can identify it as a real monster.
levels
After each level, the player is given a password that allows them to return to the game at any time. There are four levels:
- Spooky Shipwreck: A spooky shipwreck is happening near where Red Ryan is sailing. One-Eyed Matt, a ghost pirate, chases the ship. In reality, he is searching for treasure in nearby sunken ships that he plans to melt down and steal.
- Haunted Amusement Park: An evil clown haunts an amusement park, seeking to shut it down in revenge for being fired as a janitor.
- Creepy Swamp: Since the Tar Monster owns this ranch, everyone is leaving and buying the land cheaply so they can sell it at a profit.
- Bradshaw Manor: An evil vampire named Count Bagosi is terrorizing Daphne's uncle's mansion, hoping to drive everyone out so he can continue his criminal forgery adventure undetected.
Each mystery has two bonus levels. The first is in the kitchen area. As Scooby moves from side to side, catching the food that Shaggy throws from the refrigerator onto the slices of bread, the player picks it up. However, if Scooby moves too fast, part of it falls off. If the sandwich is big enough, the player will receive extra points.
To score points in this game, Shaggy must hit as many enemies (including ghosts, vampires, knights, etc.) as possible without hitting Scooby or other gang members. In this level, Shaggy plays "Whac-A-Mole" style with a mallet in three vases. This game is similar to "Whac-A-Mole" played in other levels.
It has the same objective as the previous level, except that it is to hit as many enemies as possible without hitting Scooby or the other gang members. Players can earn time bonuses, time freezes, and speed boosts to prolong the game and earn more points. If the player earns enough points within the time limit, they receive a Scooby Bonus.
Graphics
The characters actually looked like the ones in the TV show, so that's a good thing. Especially when it comes to Shaggy and Scooby. They look almost identical to their animated counterparts. The colors of their clothes are the only difference, as they appear much brighter. The enemies and monsters looked so clear and smooth, so that's a good thing in my book. The level designs and back-rounds looked great. They looked a lot like something you'd see on the show. They look well designed, and always look great.
Music and Sound
First of all, the music. There were only a few music tracks in the entire game. One can be heard when the game starts or before starting a mystery. One can be heard in Level 1, Level 3 and Level 4. A special circus music track can be heard in Level 2. Then the last one can be heard in the bonus levels. They sound great, but there could have been at least one more music track. Now, The Sound. The sound effects sounded a bit muffled and didn't sound clear. Hubo bastantes efectos de sonido en el juego, como lanzar objetos, tus pasos y un fragmento de sonido con Shaggy diciendo «¡Payaso malvado!» in the mystery of the circus. They did a good job here.
Final reflection
Okay, so the game has a good story, great graphics, fun gameplay, bad difficulty, great controls, great music, decent sound effects, and a lot of fun.
