Everything you need to know about Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island
Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island, known in Japan as Super Mario: Yoshi's Island (??????? ????????? S?p? Mario Yossh? Airando?) is a platform game from the Super Mario subseries for the console Super nintendo released in 1995. It is a Mario game with the tagline World, distinct from the NES games by the tagline World
Regarding the first Super Mario World, the style of play changed drastically. Here, the character Yoshi is the one we control, Mario being a defenseless infant that Yoshi must take care of as we progress through the story. Yoshi's control scheme is totally different from that used by Mario in his other platform games.
This game was praised by the specialized press and by several experts in the sector. It is believed to be one of the best games ever made in every way. It took four years to create. The SFX 2 chip was incorporated into the cartridge. This chip allowed for impressive modifications such as watercolor printing, zooming, rotating, and other innovative visual effects.
It was versioned for the portable console Nintendo Gameboy Advance to make it slightly less desirable and prevent it from suffering the same slowdowns as the original. In addition to the graphics slightly inferior to those of the original, the version for GBA It has six extra levels that are not found in the original version.
Brief History Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island
THE HISTORY
This story happened a long, long time ago? This is a story about a baby and Yoshi?
A stork rushes across the dark sky before dawn. In his bill, he supports a pair of twins who will be released to their parents as soon as possible.
Suddenly, something appears from the clouds and rushes towards the stork at blinding speed!
?SSCCRRREEEEECH!!!?, he shouts. ?These babies are mine!?
Snatching only one baby, the creature fades into the darkness from whence it came.
Oh no! The second baby falls undetected into the open sea?
The kidnapper is Kamek, an evil Magikoopa from the Koopa Kingdom. Having guessed last night that the twin babies born this morning would bring disaster to the Koopa family, he set up an ambush early in the morning. Returning to his castle, Kamek realizes that he missed the other baby. He sorts his toadies.
Go find the other baby!! Don't let his parents get him back! Ever!!?
Meanwhile, the second baby doesn't fall into the sea after all? Land safely on Yoshi's back! And right after him he drops a map!!
This paradise is Yoshi's Island. And many different Yoshies live on this island. These Yoshies are naturally calm and relaxed, but this is a calamity and everyone is in a state of panic. While the Yoshies yell frantically at each other, the baby insistently points at something.
Yeah! The baby can sense the location of the other baby. All of the Yoshies quickly agree to help get the baby to its destination by using a relay system similar to the old pony express.
The Green Yoshi gets top honors

Plot
Magikoopa Kamek, who trains young Bowser, plots to kidnap a newborn Yoshi on an island inhabited by the Yoshis, who are friendly and colorful dinosaurs. After kidnapping Luigi, a baby Mario falls from the sky and lands in Yoshi's friendly territory, where he is welcomed by the rest. However, Kamek has ordered his henchmen to capture him.
Gameplay Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island
In Yoshi's Island, the player controls an on-screen character, a pair of Yoshi colors, from a third-person perspective. The game, which consists of six phases and 48 levels (with six bonus levels), is inspired by coloring books, and your objective is to rescue Luigi, Mario's brother, by transporting him through enemy-laden environments. The player controls eight Yoshis, each a different color. The objective of the level is to transport Mario's brother, Luigi, through the enemy-infested environments and bring him home.
You will have to collect coins, time stars and hidden flowers to get the highest score possible in each level. Additionally, the fourth and eighth levels of each world are boss fights. To finish a level with the most red coins, the most time possible, and the most daisies possible, you must finish it with the most red coins, the most time possible, and the most daisies possible, respectively. Additional stages of each world are unlocked after you have obtained the highest possible score in all corresponding levels.
The mechanics of Super Mario are similar to those of the game, although new features inspired by Yoshi have been introduced. The dinosaur can swallow enemies with its mouth to create up to six eggs, then spit them out or swallow them to attack. When aiming, a bar appears that allows you to launch them in the desired direction. He can also hover in the air to reach further and attack mid-jump with a punch. Yoshi can also eat watermelons to gain special abilities and transform into vehicles to overcome certain obstacles. When Baby Mario becomes an invulnerable and very fast character by a power star for a short period of time, he absorbs enemies.
Yoshi has no health bar, but if he takes any damage, baby Mario will float away and be lost forever. The player must touch the baby before time runs out or it will be kidnapped by Kamek's henchmen and lost. When Yoshi is not acting normally, the time limit can be extended with time stars and power-ups up to thirty seconds. Yoshi loses a life if he falls off the stage or collides with obstacles like lava or spikes. As in Super Mario World, the player has a reserve of power-ups that extend the time to win through mini-games. There are three slots on the cartridge to save games.
The game's graphics were considered excellent and used all the features of the Super Nintendo, as can be seen in the final battle against a gigantic Bowser. Other unique and unexpected details are the fact that, in certain parts of the game, Yoshi needs to transform into a vehicle, such as a helicopter, a car, a mechanical mole, a submarine or a train, plus we will have the help of a dog robot in certain situations. We can also steal stars and Mario will get a cape that makes him invincible (Yoshi will turn into an egg).
Graphics
Yoshi's Island has GREAT graphics for a 16-bit game. Almost every level has colorful 2-D backgrounds that are a delight to the eye. Some of the level's graphics, like lava flowing at the bottom of an underground cave and levels with an ocean in the background, really stand out in the graphics department. Most of the enemies and other characters are also well done and well animated. Some parts, like when he grabs Baby Mario after time runs out, and parts of the ending, even look a little three-dimensional.
Music and Sound
Some of the sounds are a little cheesy, and one part in particular (Baby Mario crying) may make you a little nervous, but other than that, most of the sounds are great. I was especially impressed with some of the game's music, mainly the melody on the title screen and the one that plays in the underground caves. I wouldn't mind having a soundtrack for this game.
Final reflection
«Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island» es simplemente un juego esencial, una obra maestra al mismo nivel que su predecesor y uno de esos juegos que nunca perderán su atractivo debido a la brillantez y creatividad que se incluyeron en su diseño, y aunque es discutible si es o no el mejor juego de SNES, definitivamente es uno de los mejores videojuegos de todos los tiempos y ha envejecido considerablemente bien. In fact, Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto never cease to amaze me.
