Everything you need to know about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4 Turtles in Time
Teenage mutant ninja turtles 4 Turtles in Time. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series is one that will live forever in my mind, whether referring to the comic book series it originated from, the incredible movie trilogy, or the great early video games. Turtles in Time was the second Turtles game to be released on Arcade, and while it didn't live up to the expectations I had after the stellar original, it was still a fun game to play, albeit short. Konami didn't improve things much when it released on the Super Nintendo, but it's still a side-scrolling classic and the last great Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.
I really enjoyed this game for the same reason I enjoyed the last two installments of the series on the NES: it's a lot of fun. Simple, sure, but fun nonetheless. Turtles in Time is further proof that a game doesn't need to be complex to be fun. Really, these games always come down to the same basic gameplay concepts. Go right, hit enemies, go right, hit more enemies, eventually fight a boss, move on to the next stage. There isn't much variation involved, but it really isn't necessary.
However, the environments and enemies are certainly more unique this time around. In the first stage, you are on a huge bridge fighting your basic infantrymen. Sure, we fought on a bridge in the third game in the series, but this time you'll have to dodge a huge Krang head that stands behind the bridge and shoots lasers from its eyes at you. It's the little things like this that make the game more interesting. Later levels have you fighting dinosaurs and pirates, which definitely helps change the feel a bit. Instead of facing robots and foot soldiers throughout the game, you now have a mix of enemies.
You get to choose which turtle you want to be, of course, but the basic problem that it doesn't really matter which one you choose isn't really an issue this time. The reason for this is the fact that each Turtle has a different weapon, and this time weapon range and movement speed really matter. Donatello gets a bo, which is long and has good range, but is slower and therefore can't attack as fast, unlike Raphael, who has trouble hitting long range enemies, but can kill them. faster. Additionally, each turtle also gets a special move, which is carried over from the previous installment, but was still a welcome idea.
Gameplay of Teenage mutant ninja turtles 4 Turtles in Time
The big cheese in a beat em' up is the gameplay, and this game is no different. Fortunately, the gameplay of this game is so fun that you will come back again and again; Unfortunately, this game is much easier than its Arcade version. However, its good points make up for this. The levels are medium length and very, very sweet. You have a good amount of health and the license to kick ass. And I must say it could hardly be more fun. Choose your turtle, and although they are not very different, it is fun to choose your favorite.
I can't go into too many details because, after all, this is a simple beat em' up. But the enemies are similar throughout the game, and the foot soldiers only change color and weapon, not that there's anything wrong with that. The levels have various traps here and there, and you get small waves of enemies and attacks. Once you defeat two or three of these waves, you will advance to the next area of enemies. The formula is classic; Go through a bunch of enemies and fight a boss. In some levels, which I think are really fun, you have to fight two bosses at once! Wear down the bosses, beat them to a pulp and advance to the next level.
Most enemies have the same method of defeating them; hitting his head. Did you have enough? Of course, play in cooperative mode. It's a little more difficult and you'll have the time of your life playing with a friend. And there are plenty of additional modes to keep you busy. This is one of the most fun side-scrolling games I've ever had the privilege of getting my hands on. So put this game on your old SNES, it will be worth it. It may not be that difficult, but it's still a lot of fun,
Graphics
The graphics of this game are bright and detailed (to some extent). I love what they did with the backgrounds, even though most of the time they don't move. The models are simple, but the backgrounds are creative and colorful. The thing is, when this game was released, there was some pretty good competition when it came to graphics. I'm talking about the early 90s, when there were games like Super Mario World, Mega Man games, Sonic games, etc., where the graphics were also colorful and quite detailed. This game has graphics that are so perfect for TMNT it's almost unbelievable.
The sprites and shadows fit the Turtles down to the tip. Additionally, you have the option to make the characters more like those in the comics. It's not so much that they completely surpass the other games in terms of graphics; is that the graphics fit very well with the comic attitude. The cut scenes are also colorful. They have little word bubbles when the Turtles say something, and it really fits the mood. The explosions look great, although they don't look as detailed, but they are still quite colorful. The stage environment can seem a little repetitive from time to time, and that's the only problem I have with the graphics.
It's also fun to see the turtles' expressions when they get surprised, squished, stubbed their toe (hilarious), etc. Again, the backgrounds are nice and also interact with the foreground (the part you play in, if you didn't know). ), so Konami did a good job there too. I have to hand it to those guys, they did a really good job with the graphics in this game. Great style, I love it.
Music and Sound
Pretty good, I must say. The music is different, I'll let you know, but not in a bad way; in fact, in a very good way. The melodies are innovative and original. I definitely heard the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme tune in there, which was a joy to listen to while playing. Some of the tunes are forgettable, while others will stick in your head years later. Wow, I haven't played this game for quite some time and I remember most of the songs clearly and individually. The boss theme seems hectic, I just wish it was different for each boss which would have been nice. The tunes are fun and exciting, but it's not like they're something you'd hum a little later.
They only really seem repetitive if you play slowly, although they do repeat themselves a lot, and it can feel like the music producers didn't try hard enough. But the melodies were still great. Most of the songs seem like a mix of Techno and Rock n' Roll, which is great. It was cool to have the old theme tune in there, which was pretty much Rock, if you're not an old school fan and I have to enlighten you. So the melodies fit the theme, they were fun and original.
Final reflection
Sadly, this was the last great game in the series, as the license soon lost its luster until the show was rejuvenated as a shitty anime-style cartoon. Today's games are often silly and forgettable, but playing this one will remind you of the days when games weren't just about 17-hit combos or super angsty stories. While this is not an all-time classic, it is easily one of the best experiences on the SNES and stands as one of the best beat em ups of all time. I highly recommend checking this one out, even if you're not a Turtles fan.
